Episode 100!!! I decided to create a morning routine that I love. Also, I have been able to keep it up. Here is what I did to sustain it.

The pandemic was like one of those movies that you are like stuck watching, hoping it will get better, and then you are just like when will it end. Can you feel me? The chronic stress was taking a toll on me. I constantly felt tired and not my best self. I was easily irritated with those around me (sorry fam!!). So, I needed a change. Additionally, I kept hearing about this book called the Miracle Morning.

Listen to the podcast episode:

Here are some of the gym clothes I wear everyday. I have another post of gym clothes here.

“The morning routine helps us set the tone for the day, better allowing us to control our schedules rather than our schedule controlling us. As we start each day fresh, we can better focus on what is in front of us, where to prioritize our time, and, ultimately, increase our productivity.”

The idea in this book is that you develop a morning routine that includes a set of daily activities. These activities are called S.A.V.E.R.S., Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, and Scribing (Journaling). You get up earlier each morning to engage in these activities. For me, that was getting up at 5:00 am! This is how I do it:

I get up, brush my teeth, and then head to the kitchen to change into my gym clothes. I do some breathing for a bit. Then, I read a couple pages of the two books I am reading (I like reading two books at once). After that, I use my journaling time reflect on my goals and gratitude for all that I have in my life. Finally, I process my thoughts. That brings me to about 5:25 am. Next, I head to the gym. I start with the bike at the gym then do the machines or weights depending how I feel. I finish up around 6:00 am and take a “sweatie selfie” – because why not? I post those in my Instagram Stories.

Here are the books I mentioned

It sounds super crazy and it was rough at first. I just needed to get through the first couple of weeks to let my body adjust. I had to be like “Vivian, you are getting up” even when I didn’t feel like it. Once I got through that patch, I started to enjoy the time. Here’s are my tips:

  • Select your gym clothes and set them where you need them the night before
  • Get your water bottle and whatever you are going to eat out the night before
  • Set out your journal and books wherever you plan to be sitting
  • Get to bed early enough so you feel rested
  • Find books that you will look forward to reading
  • Invest in gym clothes you will love to wear
  • Create a playlist that will get you in a good mood

Last tip, and this a big one, be flexible with your routine. There are days that I feel tired so I don’t push myself at the gym. I really use this slice of time to be something that fills my cup up. That means not being hard on myself and going at my own pace. For me, making this my own time is how I have been able to do it everyday! Do you have a morning routine you like? If so, tell me in the comments below!
