A tulle skirt isn’t just for Carrie Bradshaw. You can wear one too. Here is how I style this whimsical skirt.

Tip One – Wear it with a Basic Top
First, a tulle skirt is already a pretty extra item. So, go with a basic top. For example, wear it with a tank top bodysuit or a turtleneck. This will avoid the top competing with the skirt. Likewise, this will give the skirt a more casual vibe. That way you don’t look like you are going to a wedding or stole your little sister’s skirt!

“…you’re thinking: tulle skirt is just another term for tutu, and there’s no way you’re wearing one. But, bear with us now, because you might be missing out.”

Tip Two – Add Structure with a Belt
Additionally, adding a belt will add some structure. This is important for a couple of reasons. First, a tulle skirt is an piece with a lot of volume. So, adding a belt brings it in to accentuate your waist. You don’t want your silhouette to get lost in the skirt. Also, adding a belt can bring the outfit together. Sometimes tulle skirts don’t have a defined waist area other than an elastic.

Tip Three – Add Some Denim or a Coat
Finally, add some denim or a coat to complete your look. Going back to the Carrie Bradshaw example, she is just wearing a tulle skirt as is with a tank top. Although that worked in SATC, it probably won’t work for everyday style for all of us. Instead, throw on a coat to complete the look. That adds some texture to the outfit. Also, it adds more structure to the look.
I’ve worn a tulle skirt with a chambray shirt, a denim jacket (as I did here) and with a pea coat. These pairings add something unexpected.

In conclusion, see, you CAN wear a tulle skirt! Likewise, you can wear it with a lot of items you already own. Check out another post here.
