1. Sleep: The Ultimate Foundation

First, sleep is often underrated, but for me, it’s critical. When I don’t sleep well, I find that I start making less healthy choices about everything—what I eat, how I respond to stress, and whether I exercise. I’m more irritable and less focused, and I even notice it in my skin! Prioritizing sleep helps me show up as my best self, and it keeps me grounded to handle whatever the day throws at me.

2. Moving Every Day

Next, getting movement in daily, even if it’s just a walk, has transformed my energy and mood. I’ve learned to be flexible with my routine—I don’t have to hit the gym for hours to feel good. Most days, I walk on my walking pad, and on others, I go outside for fresh air. The key is consistency. Moving fuels me for the day and helps me sleep better at night. It’s become a non-negotiable part of my routine because it keeps me energized and feeling strong.

3. Building Strength Through Weight Training

Also, weight training has been a game-changer for me. After hiring a trainer, (I had one for a year and a half. Read more about that here) I felt more confident in the gym and learned how to properly lift weights. Now, I know how to increase resistance and track my progress. It’s empowering to feel strong, and I love seeing how my body changes when I invest in myself this way. If you’re intimidated by weights, I encourage you to learn the basics—it makes all the difference.

4. Intentional Nutrition

Moreover, I’ve stopped focusing on restrictive diets and instead focus on being intentional about what I eat. I notice that when I eat too much sugar or processed foods, I feel sluggish and inflammation. So, I aim for foods that make me feel good—fiber-rich carbs, proteins, and plenty of water. Paying attention to how food makes me feel has made all the difference, and I’m more mindful of choosing things that fuel my energy rather than drain it.

5. Ditch the Alcohol

Lastly, after 40, I’ve noticed that alcohol affects me more than it used to, so I’ve chosen to eliminate it. I stopped drinking alcohol after I had my son, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. It started because I didn’t want the hassle of “pumping and dumping”, but I soon realized that I felt better without it. Drinking would often leave me with headaches and low energy for days. Now, I feel more focused and clear-headed, and I don’t miss it at all. This decision has improved my energy, focus, and overall well-being. Listen, I know this is an unpopular opinion! This is what has worked for me. Do you!

By focusing on sleep, movement, weight training, and intentional nutrition, I’ve created a routine that helps me feel my best every day. These small changes have helped me show up stronger, more energized, and more confident in every area of my life. I hope these insights inspire you to take charge of your own wellness journey and invest in yourself. You deserve it! Want more life inspo? Check out this post here.
