Three Hidden Benefits of Having a Blog That Nobody’s Talking About

My blog episodes have always been some of the most popular episodes on this podcast, and I get it. Social media is loud, fast, and constantly changing the rules on you. I’ve had a blog for at least 10 years now — I moved to WordPress about 8 or 9 years ago and haven’t looked back. The algorithm rollercoaster that comes with social media? It doesn’t happen when you own a blog.

Here are 3 hidden benefits to having a blog that you’ve probably never thought about.

1. It’s a landing page that actually works for you

You know how everyone uses Linktree or a generic landing page? You can build that on your own blog instead — and tailor it. I have a different landing page for Instagram followers with my shopping links, a separate one for YouTube, and another for Threads, depending on what’s resonating with each audience.

That means you’re not just parking a link — you’re capturing the visit, tracking what people click, and giving them a reason to go deeper into your “About” page and learn who you actually are. It creates a far more professional introduction than a link-in-bio tool ever could.

One note: keep it clean. If you stack too many ads at the bottom, it gets busy and distracts from the landing page doing its job.

2. It creates passive income

I have blog posts that are 5-6 years old and still get visits today. My Fashion Nova post is one of my most popular pieces of content — I didn’t do anything to promote it recently. It’s evergreen. People search for that content at different times of year, and all I have to do is refresh the images and links every so often.

That’s something social media will never do for you. A blog post is searchable, which means people find you organically, click through, and often go down the rabbit hole to become a follower — all without you posting a single new Reel that day. Most of my blog traffic comes from search, and that traffic is what converts on my affiliate links.

3. It extends your reach and makes you discoverable

Because a blog is searchable, you’re simply more findable than you are on social media — and social platforms have zero incentive to send people off their app. A blog is the opposite: built to be found.

I’ve even had blog visits that came from ChatGPT recommending my content. That’s the power of writing searchable, keyword-rich content — it works for you in places you’re not even actively posting.

The Takeaway

A blog isn’t as glossy or immediate as social media. It takes real work. But it pays off — and at the end of the day, you own that site. Nobody can change an algorithm and take it away from you.

Recap

So many good things come from having a blog. Go ahead and get on it.
