Commitment- I was mentioning in my stories that I Commitment- I was mentioning in my stories that I try take on things that I can sustain. That I can keep up. Helping make systemic change will take time. So after this week, we need to commit to staying engaged. ✨For instance, addressing persistent inequities in education that impact BIPOC. ✨I’m sure there are a several books out there. One that I think explain the disparities in education is Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol. I read it undergrad and came up again in my doctoral program. It’s worth the read ❤️. #amplifymelanatedvoices #bethechange —————————————————————————— Compromiso: estaba mencionando en mis historias de IG que es importante hacer cosas que uno pueda sostener. Eso que se puede hacer de manera constante. Ayudar a hacer un cambio sistémico llevará tiempo. We are at a tipping point, the wounds have broken We are at a tipping point, the wounds have broken us - especially POC. As an Afro-Latina - I am Black AND Latina at the same time. I can speak for myself- I feel broken open. With that comes an opportunity, an opportunity to shift and seek long term systemic change. That means looking at the systems that exist that create persistent barriers. That means asking questions as to why certain systems are the way they are. 🌺 For my state, there will be cuts to education which will continue increase inequities. Meanwhile, other systems will remain funded. Fellow school psychologists and educators were already working to address the trauma students carry from Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) that our communities of color are dealing with. This compounded now by the pandemic. 🌺 The horrific death of #georgefloyd was the tipping point. What we do when no one is posting, when no one is watching is what matters..We need empathy + action to impact. I’m donating to the @thelovelandfoundation to support mental health services for Black women and girls. J —————————————————————————— Estamos en un punto crítico, las heridas nos han roto, especialmente de la comunidad de color. Como Afro-Latina, soy Negra Y Latina al mismo tiempo. Puedo hablar por mí mismo, me siento quebrado. Con eso viene una oportunidad, una oportunidad de cambiar y buscar un cambio sistémico a largo plazo. Eso significa mirar los sistemas que existen que crean barreras persistentes. Eso significa hacer preguntas sobre por qué ciertos sistemas son como son. 🌺 Mi estado, habrá recortes en la educación que continuarán aumentando las desigualdades. Mientras tanto, otros sistemas seguirán siendo financiados. Compañeros psicólogos y educadores escolares ya estaban trabajando para abordar el trauma que los estudiantes llevan de las Experiencias Adversas de la Infancia (ACE) que nuestras comunidades de color están enfrentando.
