The holidays are that one time a year that I feel that I can play dress up and not look like I’m looking too extra.

For the links below, since my skirt was thrifted, I rounded up some skirts that are just as fun.

Here is the problem, I love the holiday season but I don’t want to dress like a Christmas present. So, instead, I look for unique pieces with fun elements like this ruffled skirt. Think fun skirts, metallics with something basic, and a bold lip color.

I don’t really go out all that much other than with my family. However, I will take any chance I have to kick my outfit up a bit and wear something fun.

So, here is my game plan to “Mix Up” things up to create some holiday looks, on a budget (pun intended):

Hit up a thrift store for unique pieces

As I mentioned in my thrifting post, I tried Thrifting and this is what happened, I just started checking out thrift shops. This has opened up a whole new world of one-of-a-kind items for me. I look for skirts and tops that have something unique, something with a little twist. With this skirt, I liked that it was maxi length and had tiered ruffles. I snagged this one at Savers, a thrift store, for $7.50.

Although it does look like I may be taking your margarita order at your local restaurant, I like it! I paired it with this fitted striped top to bring down the busy vibe of the skirt.

Add Something Metallic

Like I mentioned in my last post, How I do Layering with Curves, I like to mix of textures to add visual interest. I threw in a bit of metallic with these heels. This boxy purse also adds a metal element along with the chain strap.

Think fun skirts, metallics with something basic, and a bold lip color.

Go with a Bold Lip

The bold lip is my go to all year. Now it’s a just bit more expected as we head into the holiday season.

Alright, your turn, this is your official permission to play dress up too. Got some holiday outfit ideas? Let me know in the comments!

… Because getting dressed (and living life) should feel good!
