Two Ways to Wear Neutrals that Aren’t Boring
Want to wear neutrals in a way that is not boring? I got a couple of ways to rock these gorgeous tones in a way that won’t make you snooze. Continue Reading
You need a winter coat that you will be excited to wear. I got some tips for finding a winter coat you’ll want to wear (every year).
I try to scoop up a good coat every year when there are sales. A good coat is one of those things you want to get when you see something you like. Also, you want to get one early when they have your size and the colors you want. Likewise, I go with styles that are interesting but not too on trend. That way I can wear them year after year.
Here are my tips for finding the coat you didn’t know you needed.
"You’ll be the one everyone notices in a sea of black coats."
The Cut
Tip One
First, a plain puffer or quilted coat in black isn’t that exciting. It will keep you warm but won’t do much for you style wise. Opt for something that will stand out a bit from your other pieces. Go with a metallic (like this jacket), a bold color you love, or an interesting print. However, don’t go with something too on trend- you want to be able to wear it next year.
For example, I like the metallics since it gives a bit of a glam vibe to an otherwise basic coat. Also, it’s a little bit extra and I am here for it!
Along with a leather jacket, a puffer is something you can wear year after year. For instance, this puffer coat is from Old Navy from a couple of years ago. I’m wearing a large. I linked similar ones.
Tip two
Second, being able to move is a must for whatever I buy. I like a faux fur coat to be thick enough to keep me warm but also thin enough to pack. I’ve mentioned this before – when it comes to having curves, you don’t want to add too much volume. The reason is that along with being uncomfortable, it will overwhelm your frame.
Moreover, a faux fur coat is an instant glam piece. So, keep the rest of it simple. I go with colors that I would normally wear since it is already a standout item. This one is from last year from Target. I linked similar ones.

Finally, get the length and fit that will work for your frame. I still subscribe to the “flattering” club. Since I got curves, I like jackets to hit at my hip or waist. For example, if it is longer, I like it to have way to cinch it in at the waist. Additionally, I like these styles since they will work with what I already own. I like that this teddy coat hits at my hip. It super cozy without being too long.
Do yourself a favor and get the right fit for your frame and style.
