I have a few basic dresses in my closet! When a dress is basic, I am able to create new outfits just by changing out the accessories.
That’s what we are Mixing Up in this post.
This allows me to get more use out of a dress. I can layer it up when it gets cold or just add a statement necklace in the summer. Lots of possibilities.
Makes it easy to get ready in the morning! Plus, means I’m not always having the urge to go shopping.
In this post, I just changed out the belt for the scarf.

Okay, here are my “basics” of the buying basics:
- Fit – Make sure the dress fits well.
- Fabric – Along with fit, a cheaply made basic won’t be durable enough to be worn multiple times. So pay a little more if you need to. You want your clothes to last.
- Color – Go for colors that will compliment what you already have in your closet. Also, think about if it will compliment your complexion and skin tone.
- Try – Try different combinations of accessories and colors. You never know what will work together! I mix up pieces on my Stylebook app, from a previous post here, to come up with new outfits..
… because getting dressed (and living life) should feel good!
